Coati Mundi ist der Künstlername des amerikanischen Musikers und Schauspielers Andy Hernandez. Mundi wuchs in Spanish Harlem, New York City, auf. Er hat einen Abschluss in Wirtschaftswissenschaften von der NYU. Während seines Studiums entdeckte er seine Leidenschaft für die Künste und verbrachte fortan einen Großteil seiner Freizeit mit Musikern, Schauspielern und Dichtern. Bevor ihm mit Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band („Cherchez la Femme“) und Kid Creole and The Coconuts der Durchbruch gelang, arbeitete er kurzzeitig als Sozialarbeiter.
