Elizabeth Taylor, Liz genannt, galt jahrzehntelang als die schönste Frau Hollywoods. Mit drei Jahren soll Elizabeth Taylor vor der Queen getanzt haben, mit acht spielte sie die erste Filmrolle. Mit zwölf hat sie ihren ersten Film-Vertrag mit MGM. Liz Taylor ist die in London geborene Tochter US-amerikanischer Eltern. Sobald sie laufen konnte, bekam Liz Taylor bereits in London Ballettstunden, mit drei Jahren trat sie mit ihrer Ballettgruppe vor der königlichen Familie auf. 1939, kurz vor Ausbruch des Zweiten Weltkrieges, zogen sie nach Los Angeles, wo der Vater eine Kunstgalerie betrieb. Drei Jahre später übernahm die hübsche Liz Taylor für Universal Studiosihre erste Rolle in Harold Youngs Komödie There’s One Born Every Minute. 1943 spielte sie eine Rolle im Lassie-Film Heimweh und schloss daraufhin einen Exklusiv-Vertrag mit Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer ab. Die junge Schönheit wurde zum Kinderstar aufgebaut. In National Velvet (deutsch: Kleines Mädchen, großes Herz) wurde Liz Taylor neben Mickey Rooney bereits ein Star und die Publicity-Maschine von MGM spannte sie voll ein. Die harschen Filmarbeiten handelten ihr einen lebenslangen Rückgratschaden ein, da sie auf ein Streckbrett gespannt wurde, um ihre Körpergröße zu verlängern. National Velvet war ein großer Erfolg, der über 4 Mio. Dollar einspielte. Dank ihrer Schönheit und reifen Erscheinung spielte Liz Taylor bereits mit 16 Jahren die Ehefrau von Robert Taylor in dem Film Verschwörer. Mit 18 Jahren schloss Liz Taylor die Schule ab und heiratete. Der erste ihrer acht Ehemännern war der Hilton-Erbe Conrad Nicholson ‘Nicky’ Hilton. Die Ehe wurde aber bereits nach neun Monaten geschieden und von MGM ausgenutzt, um die neuesten Filme Vater der Braut und Ein Geschenk des Himmels zu promoten. 1952 heiratete Liz Taylor in zweiter Ehe den zwanzig Jahre älteren britischen Schauspieler Michael Wilding. Aus dieser Ehe gingen zwei Kinder hervor. Fünf Jahre später galt diese Ehe als gescheitert. Die Scheidung folgte und die Liz Taylor vermählte sich mit dem Filmproduzenten Mike Todd, trat für ihn dem jüdischen Glauben bei und bekam ein drittes Kind. Todd starb kurze Zeit später bei einem Flugzeugabsturz. Liz Taylor zog daraufhin die Schlagzeilen auf sich, da sie den Trauzeugen ihrer Ehe, Eddie Fisher, heiratete, der zu Beginn der Affäre noch liiert gewesen war. Die beiden wollten ein deutsches Mädchen adoptieren, das dann allerdings von dem fünften Ehemann Richard Burton adoptiert wurde. Liz Taylor und Burton sorgten mit ihrem Ehestreit und den zwei Ehen über zehn Jahre lang für Schlagzeilen in der Regenbogenpresse.
