Der britische Schauspieler Bob Hoskins wurde am 26. Oktober 1942 in England geboren und starb im April 2014 im Alter von 71 Jahren. Hoskins war einer der der wichtigsten Schauspieler Großbritanniens und wurde vor allem durch seine Charakterdarstellungen zwielichtiger Gestalten bekannt. Zum Film kam Hoskins über das Theater und Fernsehen. Seine größten Erfolge feierte er in den 1980er Jahren, wo er mit Regisseuren wie John Mackenzie, Francis Ford Coppola und Terry Gilliam zusammenarbeitete. Zu seinen berühmtesten Rollen zählen der Ex-Sträfling George im britischen Filmklassiker Mona Lisa, für den Hoskins u.a. mit dem Golden Globe ausgezeichnet wurde sowie der Privatdetektiv Eddie Valiant im 80er-Jahre-Hit Falsches Spiel mit Roger Rabbit. Hoskins begeisterte außerdem Kritiker und Publikum in Arthaus-Filmen wie Felicia, Mein Engel von Atom Egoyan oder Lady Henderson präsentiert von Stephen Frears. Seine letzte Rolle spielte Hoskins im Film Snow White and the Huntsman. Im Verlauf seiner Karriere wurde Hoskins äußerlich immer wieder mit dem amerikanischen Schauspieler Danny DeVito verwechselt, weshalb Hoskins DeVito mit einem Augenzwinkern für eine mögliche Verfilmung seines Lebens ins Gespräch brachte.
