Südafrika 1879. Mit einem unmöglich einzuhaltenden Ultimatum provoziert Sir Henry Bartle Frere die eingeborenen Zulu-Stämme zu einer waffenstarrenden Aggression. Durch gezielte Falschinformation vermeindlicher Gefangener, trifft General Lord Chelmsford die fatale Fehlentscheidung, die britischen Truppen aufzuteilen. Colonel Durnford sieht sich schließlich mit einer gewaltigen Übermacht konfrontiert. Den sicheren Tod vor Augen, kämpft er mit seinen Leuten bis zur letzten Sekunde. Am Ende dieser wahren Geschichte steht die vernichtendste Niederlage der britischen Kolonialarmee, verursacht durch 25.000 zu allem entschlossene Zulu-Krieger.
