Edward Albert Arthur Woodward war ein englischer Schauspieler und Sänger. Er begann seine Bühnenkarriere und trat in Produktionen sowohl im Londoner West End als auch am New Yorker Broadway auf. Größere Bekanntheit erlangte er 1967 durch die Titelrolle des britischen Fernsehspionagedramas Callan, für die er 1970 den British Academy Television Award als Bester Hauptdarsteller erhielt. Woodward spielte 1973 den Polizeisergeant Neil Howie im britischen Kulthorrorfilm The Wicker Man und 1980 die Titelrolle des australischen Biopics Breaker Morant. Von 1985 bis 1989 spielte Woodward den ehemaligen Geheimagenten und späteren Privatdetektiv Robert McCall in der amerikanischen Fernsehserie The Equalizer, für die er 1986 den Golden Globe als Bester Hauptdarsteller in einem Fernsehdrama erhielt.
