James Gandolfini (* 18. September 1961 in Westwood, New Jersey) war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler, der vor allem für seine Rolle als Tony Soprano in der HBO-Serie Die Sopranos (1999–2007) bekannt wurde. Für diese Darstellung gewann er drei Emmy Awards, fünf Screen Actors Guild Awards und einen Golden Globe Award. Gandolfini spielte in Filmen wie True Romance (1993), Crimson Tide – In tiefster Gefahr (1995), Schnappt Shorty (1995), Zivilprozess (1998), Die letzte Festung (2001), Zero Dark Thirty – Die Jagd auf Osama bin Laden (2012) und Genug gesagt (2013). Neben seiner Schauspielkarriere war er auch als Produzent tätig und arbeitete an Dokumentationen wie Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq (2007) und Wartorn: 1861–2010 (2011). Er starb am 19. Juni 2013 in Rom, Italien, an einem Herzinfarkt.
