Walter John Matthau (* 1. Oktober 1920 in New York City; † 1. Juli 2000 in Santa Monica, Kalifornien) war ein US-amerikanischer Filmschauspieler und Oscarpreisträger. Bekannt wurde er vor allem durch Auftritte in Filmkomödien an der Seite von Jack Lemmon. Matthau wurde aber wiederholt auch als Charakterdarsteller eingesetzt. Sein spezielles Markenzeichen war sein unverwechselbares „Knautschgesicht“.
