Alan Steven Rudolph ist ein US-amerikanischer Filmregisseur und Drehbuchautor. Rudolph war ein Protegé des Regisseurs Robert Altman, so arbeitete er 1973 als Regieassistent an Altmans Verfilmung von Raymond Chandlers Roman „The Long Goodbye“ und 1975 an „Nashville“. Rudolphs Filme konzentrieren sich auf isolierte und exzentrische Charaktere und ihre Beziehungen. Häufig handelt es sich um Ensemblefilme mit ausgeprägter Romantik und Fantasie. Er hat die meisten seiner Filme selbst geschrieben. Darüber hinaus arbeitete er wiederholt mit den Schauspielern Keith Carradine und Geneviève Bujold sowie dem Komponisten Mark Isham zusammen.
