El primer largometraje de semificción del documentalista Védrès se estrenó en Francia en 1949 con el título La Vie Commence Demain. La película se estrenó en Estados Unidos en 1952 con el título La vida comienza mañana. Realizada en colaboración con la UNESCO, la película especula sobre el futuro de la humanidad tras la llegada de la energía atómica. Muchos destacados artistas e intelectuales franceses contribuyen a la narrativa: Jean-Pierre Aumont interpreta El hombre de hoy, André Labarthe es el Hombre del mañana, y Jean-Paul Sartre, Daniel Agache, Jean Rostand, El Corbusier, Pablo Picasso y André Gide son considerados respectivamente "el existencialista", "el psiquiatra", "el biólogo", "el arquitecto", "el artista" y "el autor". Védrès reúne fragmentos de películas de hospitales, aulas escolares, laboratorios científicos e incluso discotecas en una composición fascinante.
