Kevin Spacey Fowler, KBE (South Orange, 26 de julio de 1959), es un actor, director, productor y comediante estadounidense, ganador de dos premios Óscar. Nació en South Orange, en el estado de Nueva Jersey, con el nombre Kevin Spacey Fowler. Es el hermano menor de los tres hijos de un matrimonio formado por un padre redactor técnico, y una madre secretaria. El trabajo del padre motivó que la familia se mudara en varias ocasiones, viviendo en distintas localidades del país. Finalmente se establecieron en California, donde el pequeño Kevin puso de manifiesto su carácter revoltoso. Sus padres le enviaron a un internado dirigido por militares, de donde fue expulsado a los pocos meses. Ingresó entonces en un colegio del Valle de San Fernando, cercano a Los Ángeles. Allí Spacey se encontró a gusto y comenzó a participar en el teatro amateur de la escuela.[cita requerida] Finalizada la escuela, y tras una breve estancia en un colegio de actuación de Los Ángeles, Spacey marchó a Nueva York y comenzó a estudiar interpretación en el prestigioso Juilliard School. A los dos años estaba tan ansioso por actuar, que abandonó el colegio antes de recibirse y se incorporó al Festival de Shakespeare de Nueva York. En 1981, Spacey apareció por primera vez en el teatro, interpretando a un mensajero en la obra de Shakespeare Enrique VI. Al año siguiente actuó Los espectros, en un drama de Ibsen en Broadway, a la que seguirían El misántropo (1984), de Molière, y Largo viaje hacia la noche (1986), de Eugene O'Neill. Se dio cuenta que su camino estaba en el cine, pero aun así, Spacey siguió actuando regularmente en el teatro y ganó en 1991 un premio Tony, el equivalente a los Óscar en el teatro, gracias a su interpretación en Perdidos en Yonkers, de Neil Simon. Se introdujo en el cine a mediados de la década de 1980, con papeles secundarios en películas de éxito como Se acabó el pastel (con Jack Nicholson y Meryl Streep) y Armas de mujer (con Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver y Melanie Griffith). En 1992 participó en Glengarry Glen Ross, con un reparto de ilustres veteranos: Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris. Pero su consagración como estrella fue con el papel de Verbal Kint en la película Sospechosos Habituales, con el que gana su primer Óscar al mejor actor de reparto. Destaca también su papel en el thriller Se7en, junto a Brad Pitt y Morgan Freeman. Spacey es sin duda uno de los grandes actores de carácter norteamericanos de nuestros días.[cita requerida] Ha ganado dos Óscar, uno como mejor actor de reparto y otro como mejor actor principal, este último por American Beauty en 1999. Recientemente, Spacey ha sido nombrado director artístico del teatro Old Vic en Londres, uno de los teatros más prestigiosos de lengua inglesa. Allí dirige una nueva compañía teatral, que actúa durante ocho meses al año, y de la que Spacey es también actor, además de director. Entre otras obras, estrenó en Londres Cloaca de la dramaturga Maria Goos. Fue nombrado Comendador (2010) y Caballero Comendador (2015) de la Orden del Imperio Británico. Una de sus últimas películas fue 21 blackjack donde interpretó al profesor Micky Rosa en 2008. Kevin Spacey vive actualmente en Los Ángeles y es amigo de actores como Steve Martin, Sean Penn y Tom Hanks.[cita requerida] Nunca se ha casado ni ha tenido hijos, además de no hacer declaraciones sobre su vida privada.
