Les Tueurs (1946)
Un soir, dans une petite ville qui traverse la route nationale, arrivent deux inconnus. Ils cherchent quelqu'un. Ce sont des tueurs à gages. Leur victime sera un autre inconnu, Pete Lunn, installé depuis quelque temps dans cette modeste bourgade et qui tient un poste d'essence. Pete Lunn, prévenu de leur arrivée, ne cherche cependant pas à s'enfuir et attend avec fatalisme qu'ils l'abattent. Mais Lunn avait souscrit à une assurance sur la vie.La compagnie d'assurance désigne l'un de ses détectives, James Reardon, pour enquêter sur cette affaire. Interrogeant les témoins et ceux qui ont connu Pete Lunn, Reardon reconstitue le puzzle mystérieux... la vie de Lunn, dit le "Suédois".
