Ava Lavinia Gardner (24 décembre 1922 – 25 janvier 1990) était une actrice américaine de renom et l'une des figures les plus emblématiques de l'âge d'or d'Hollywood. Née le 24 décembre 1922 à Grabtown, en Caroline du Nord, elle grandit à la campagne avant d'être découverte par la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) en 1941. D'abord cantonnée à des rôles secondaires, elle accède à la célébrité grâce au film noir culte « Les Tueurs » (1946), qui la consacre comme une actrice de premier plan. La carrière de Gardner connaît son apogée dans les années 1950 avec des prestations remarquables dans des films tels que « Mogambo » (1953), pour lequel elle est nommée aux Oscars, « La Comtesse aux pieds nus » (1954) et « La Nuit de l'iguane » (1964). Reconnue pour sa beauté et son talent, elle travaille avec certains des réalisateurs et acteurs les plus célèbres de son époque. Hors des plateaux de tournage, la vie privée d'Ava Gardner a suscité un vif intérêt, notamment ses mariages avec Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw et Frank Sinatra. Elle a passé ses dernières années entre l'Espagne et Londres, et a continué à jouer jusqu'au milieu des années 1980. Ava Gardner s'est éteinte le 25 janvier 1990 à Londres, laissant derrière elle le statut de légende parmi les plus grandes figures d'Hollywood.
