Après un premier mariage difficile, Kathy a trouvé le bonheur auprès de Doug. Mais sa vie bascule quand elle apprend que John McCrane, l'homme qui l'a violée dans sa jeunesse, est le nouvel adjoint de Doug. Aidée de son mari, elle décide d'engager des poursuites judiciaires contre McCrane.
