Deux amis découvrent par hasard une eau miraculeuse qui permet de rajeunir et de faire revivre leur amie morte. Pourtant ... Le dénommé Rappaccini, voulant garder sa fille de tout rapport charnel, lui a inoculé le produit d'une mystérieuse plante qui a le pouvoir de consumer toute vie à son contact... Une étrange malédiction entre deux familles, les Pyncheon et les Maulle, pour une sombre histoire d'héritage...
