5 ans de réflexion (2012)
De l’avis général, Tom et Violet sont faits l’un pour l’autre et pourraient constituer le couple marié idéal. Lui, star de la haute cuisine de San Francisco, est prêt à rejoindre le gotha de la gastronomie californienne ; elle est une brillante doctorante en psychologie sociale à Berkeley. Deux «winners»... mais voilà que ce mariage imminent devient soudain un problème. Violet, rejetée par l’université dont elle rêvait, se rabat sur celle d’Ann Arbor, dans le Michigan. Tom se sacrifie pour la suivre, pensant que la «noce parfaite» peut attendre quelques mois. Puis d’autres obstacles, inattendus, se profilent, s’enchaînent. Le couple diffère, hésite, tergiverse… les mois passent, puis les années. Promesses en cascade, toujours remises en question… Cinq ans de réflexion…
