La Fille sur la banquette arrière (1983)
1974, peu après son mariage, Jason Carmichael, auteur dramatique renommé, commence à coécrire avec Phoebe Craddock, jeune professeur désirant devenir écrivain. Leur succès ne tarde pas, tandis que leur amitié croit chaque jour. À la fin des années 1970, Phoebe épouse Leo et s'installe à Paris pour écrire un roman semi-autobiographique. De son coté, Jason divorce et connait une liaison avec l'une de ses actrices, ce qui acerbe la jalousie de Phoebe, revenue aux États-Unis pour faire adapter son livre. La situation s'arrangera, lorsque Phoebe et Jason comprendront qu'ils sont réellement fait l'un pour l'autre...
