Biographie:

Hugh Griffith, formé à la Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, est un acteur britannique souvent employé dans des rôles de second plan, aussi bien dans le cinéma britannique qu'américain. Il se distingue par son interprétation de personnages truculents. Il est particulièrement célèbre pour son rôle du sheik Ildérim dans *Ben-Hur* de William Wyler, une performance comique qui lui vaut l'Oscar du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle. Il incarne également le père excentrique d'Audrey Hepburn dans *Comment voler un million de dollars*, également réalisé par Wyler. Griffith décède d'une crise cardiaque le 14 mai 1980 à l'âge de 67 ans.
