Biographie:

Roy Scheider est un acteur américain né Roy Richard Scheider le 10/11/1932 à Orange dans le New jersey et décédé le 10/02/2008 des suites d'un cancer (myélome découvert en 2005). Au collège il participe à de nombreuses pièces montées lors de fêtes scolaires. Après l'armée il intègre le New-York Shakespeare Festival. Roy Scheider participe a la représentation de la pièce « Richard II ». Sa prestation est remarquée par un critique qui salue sa performance dans les colonnes du New York Times. Le producteur Joseph Papp, impressionné par cette critique, le fait venir a New York. Une audition lui vaut le rôle de Mercutio dans la pièce "Roméo et Juliette", qu'il joue en tournée à travers les Etats-Unis. Il participe à de nombreuses autres tournées, se produit également sur les scènes de Broadway, et dans la troupe du Lincoln Center de New York. "The alchemist ", " The Chinese prime minister " et " Stephen D" qui lui vaudra un "Obie Award". Le cinéma l'appelle pour "The curse of the living corpse" puis "Star" et il commencera à avoir de la notoriété par le film "Klute". Puis viendra le film "French Connection " ( première nomination à l'Oscar) avec son coéquipier "Gene Hackman " et leurs deux carrières seront similaires. Roy jouera souvent des rôles de tueurs un peu comme Jack Palance avait commencé. Jusqu'à ce que Steven Spielberg fasse appel à lui pour "Les dents de la mer". D'acteur de second plan, Il devient véritablement vedette Internationale . La carrière de Roy s'en trouvera modifiée et des rôles divers lui seront donnés:" Marathon Man", "All that jazz", "Blue Thunder"... Il va promener son physique de baroudeur dans bon nombre de films d'action dont le remake du " Salaire de la peur ". Il fera également de la télévision : soit des téléfilms d'action soit des feuilletons "Le septième papyrus", "New York 911", "Seaquest, police des mers"... Les dernières années on lui donnait souvent des rôles de Président des Etats Unis (3 fois) ou de militaires gradés. Il se mariera en 1962 et aura 1 enfant puis en 1962 avec Brenda king et aura deux autres enfants. Il a refusé le film "The deep hunter".
