Judy Garland, née Frances Ethel Gumm (10 juin 1922 – 22 juin 1969), était une actrice et chanteuse américaine. Après des débuts dans le vaudeville avec ses sœurs Jimmie et Suzie, elle signa un contrat avec la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Elle y tourna plus d'une vingtaine de films, dont neuf avec Mickey Rooney et « Le Magicien d'Oz ». Quinze ans plus tard, elle quitta le studio, mais connut un regain de succès grâce à ses concerts, puis à son retour au cinéma. Tout au long de sa carrière, Judy Garland acquit une renommée internationale en tant qu'actrice dans des rôles musicaux et dramatiques, chanteuse et artiste de scène. Elle reçut un Oscar d'honneur dans la catégorie « Jeune actrice », un Golden Globe, un Grammy Award et un Tony Award spécial. Elle fut nommée à l'Oscar de la meilleure actrice pour « Une étoile est née » (1954) et à celui de la meilleure actrice dans un second rôle pour « Jugement à Nuremberg » (1961). À quarante ans, elle était la plus jeune lauréate du prix Cecil B. DeMille pour l'ensemble de sa carrière dans l'industrie cinématographique. En 1997, Judy Garland a reçu à titre posthume un Grammy d'honneur pour l'ensemble de sa carrière. Plusieurs de ses enregistrements ont été intronisés au Grammy Hall of Fame. En 1999, l'American Film Institute l'a classée parmi les dix plus grandes actrices de l'histoire du cinéma américain.
