Il postino suona sempre due volte (1981)
Durante gli anni Trenta, in un posto di ristoro per camionisti gestito da Mich e dalla moglie Cora, capita Frank, un vagabondo. Dopo non molto tempo Frank e Cora diventano amanti e, spinti dalla passione, decidono di attuare un'idea criminale: uccidere il marito di lei per potersi godere l'assicurazione. Quarta versione del romanzo di Cain, scritta da David Mamet e diretta da Rafelson che inserisce un tocco in più di realismo. Lo aiutano uno scatenato Nicholson e una convincente Lange. Memorabile la scena d'amore sul tavolo della cucina.
