Doomwatch - I mostri del 2001 (1972)
Il professor Shaw del "Doomwatch", istituto dell'anti-inquinamento britannico, analizzando la composizione batterica delle acque dell'isola di Bafle scopre una sostanza inquinante che, disperdendosi nell'aria, provoca sugli abitanti i sintomi dell'acromegalia. Le vittime, dopo aver subito mostruose deformazioni, raggiungono uno stato di follia irreversibile, ma il fenomeno, benché abbia raggiunto proporzioni allarmanti, è tenuto sotto silenzio dalle autorità governative che non intendono divulgare la presenza di un deposito di scorie radioattive nel quale sono affluiti i residui di una sperimentazione chimica segreta. Vincendo la diffidenza e il naturale pudore degli isolani, Shaw, con l'aiuto di un'insegnante, riesce ad individuare i malati e, denunciando pubblicamente l'accaduto, sollecita il decisivo intervento delle autorità sanitarie.
