Un mercoledì da leoni (1978)
La voce narrante di Fly, un giovane surfista, introduce l'ambiente in cui tre amici, Matt Johnson, Jack Barlowe e Leroy Spaccatutto Smith vivono in modo spensierato la loro gioventù praticando il surf sulle spiagge della California; i tre sono molto diversi tra loro: Leroy è chiassoso e noncurante, Jack riflessivo ed educato, mentre Matt vive con inquietudine il suo passaggio dalla spensieratezza alla maturità ma nonostante questo accetta con entusiasmo la gravidanza della fidanzata Peggy Gordon, che lo segue e gli resterà costantemente accanto anche se non sempre condividerà le sue scelte, spinta dall'amore e comprendendo la sua fragile natura.
