Miami. Little ha dieci anni ed è il bersaglio dei bulli della scuola. Sua madre si droga, e lui trova rifugio in casa di Juan e Teresa, dove può parlare poco ma sa che può trovare le risposte alle domande che più gli premono. Nero fra soli neri, dei suoi coetanei non condivide l'atteggiamento aggressivo, l'arroganza che indossano fin da piccoli. Chiron -è questo il suo vero nome- non è un duro, ma nemmeno un debole. È gay e, anche se non lo dice, non sa essere chi non è, non sa e non vuole adeguarsi, così si ribella e finisce in prigione.
