Morgan Leafy, diplomatico britannico in un piccolo stato dell'Africa Occidentale, deve ingraziarsi un politico locale favorito alle vicine elezioni. Ma questi ricatta Leafy e lo costringe a tentare di corrompere Alex Murray, un medico di origini scozzesi che si oppone alle speculazioni edilizie del candidato. Satira moscia e farsesca dei perversi rapporti tra politica europea e potenti africani.
