John Arthur Lithgow (nato il 19 ottobre 1945) è un attore americano. Ha studiato all'Università di Harvard e alla London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art prima di farsi conoscere per il suo lavoro variegato sia sul palcoscenico che sul cinema. Ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti, tra cui sei Primetime Emmy Awards, due Golden Globe e due Tony Awards, oltre a nomination per due Oscar, un British Academy Film Award, quattro Grammy Awards, quattro Screen Actors Guild Awards e un Laurence Olivier Award. Lithgow ha vinto due Tony Awards, il primo come Miglior Attore Non Protagonista in una Pièce per il suo debutto a Broadway in The Changing Room (1972) e il secondo come Miglior Attore in un Musical per il musical Sweet Smell of Success (2002). È stato nominato al Tony per Requiem for a Heavyweight (1985), M. Butterfly (1988) e Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (2005). Ha recitato nelle opere teatrali The Columnist (2012), A Delicate Balance (2014) e Hillary and Clinton (2019). Ha interpretato Roald Dahl nella pièce Giant on the West End, per la quale è stato nominato all'Olivier Award come miglior attore.
