Dame Elizabeth Rosemond "Liz" Taylor, DBE (27 febbraio 1932 – 23 marzo 2011) è stata un'attrice europea, anglo-americana. Fin dai suoi primi anni da bambina star con la MGM, divenne una delle grandi attrici cinematografiche dell'Età d'Oro di Hollywood. Come una delle star cinematografiche più famose al mondo, Taylor era riconosciuta per la sua capacità recitativa e per il suo stile di vita glamour, la bellezza e i distintivi occhi viola. National Velvet (1944) fu il primo successo di Taylor, e recitò in Father of the Bride (1950), A Place in the Sun (1951), Giant (1956), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) e Improvvisamente, Last Summer (1959). Vinse l'Oscar come miglior attrice per BUtterfield 8 (1960), interpretò il ruolo principale in Cleopatra (1963) e sposò il suo co-protagonista Richard Burton. Apparvero insieme in 11 film, tra cui Chi ha paura di Virginia Woolf? (1966), per cui Taylor vinse un secondo Oscar. Dalla metà degli anni '70 apparve meno frequentemente nel cinema e fece occasionali apparizioni in televisione e teatro. La sua vita personale, molto pubblicizzata, comprendeva otto matrimoni e diverse malattie potenzialmente letali. Dalla metà degli anni '80, Taylor ha promosso i programmi per HIV e AIDS; ha co-fondato l'American Foundation for AIDS Research nel 1985 e la Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation nel 1993. Ricevette la Presidential Citizens Medal, la Legion of Honour, il Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award e un Life Achievement Award dall'American Film Institute, che la nominò settima nella loro lista delle "Più grandi leggende dello schermo americano". Taylor morì per insufficienza cardiaca congenita all'età di 79 anni.
