James Joseph Gandolfini Jr. (18 settembre 1961 – 19 giugno 2013) è stato un attore e produttore americano. Era noto soprattutto per il suo ruolo di Tony Soprano, il boss del crimine italo-americano nella serie televisiva HBO The Sopranos, per la quale vinse tre Emmy Awards, tre Screen Actors Guild Awards e un Golden Globe. L'interpretazione di Gandolfini nei panni di Tony Soprano è ampiamente considerata tra le più grandi interpretazioni della storia della televisione. I ruoli cinematografici più noti di Gandolfini includono scagnozzo mafioso Virgil in True Romance (1993), il tenente Bobby Dougherty in Crimson Tide (1995), il colonnello Winter in The Last Castle (2001) e il sindaco di New York in The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009). Altri ruoli sono l'esecutore e stuntman Bear in Get Shorty (1995) e la impulsiva "Wild Thing" Carol in Where the Wild Things Are (2009). Per la sua interpretazione di Albert in Enough Said (2013), Gandolfini ha ricevuto postumo molti elogi dalla critica e diversi premi, tra cui una nomination al Screen Actors Guild Award e il Boston Society of Film Critics Award come miglior attore non protagonista.
