Richard Wayne Van Dyke (nato il 13 dicembre 1925 a West Plains, nel Missouri) è un attore, comico, cantante, ballerino e intrattenitore statunitense, considerato una delle figure più importanti della storia della commedia e dell'intrattenimento americano. Dopo gli inizi come intrattenitore e comico, Van Dyke raggiunge il successo a Broadway con il musical Bye Bye Birdie, per il quale vince un Tony Award nel 1961. La notorietà televisiva arriva con The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–1966), una delle sitcom più celebri dell'epoca, nella quale interpreta il protagonista Rob Petrie. Nel cinema diventa una delle principali star della commedia e del musical degli anni Sessanta. Interpreta il ruolo di Bert nel celebre Mary Poppins (1964) della Walt Disney, recitando e cantando accanto a Julie Andrews. Lo stesso anno è protagonista di What a Way to Go!, mentre successivamente recita in film come Il più felice dei miliardari (1967), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) e Fitzwilly (1967). Negli anni Settanta e Ottanta continua a lavorare soprattutto in televisione, partecipando a numerosi film e produzioni televisive. Tra gli anni Novanta e Duemila torna a essere particolarmente popolare grazie a ruoli in film come Dick Tracy (1990), Una notte al museo (2006) e Una notte al museo 2 - La fuga (2009). Nel corso della sua lunghissima carriera riceve numerosi riconoscimenti, tra cui cinque Primetime Emmy Award, un Tony Award e un Grammy Award. Nel 1995 viene inserito nella Television Hall of Fame e nel 2013 riceve il SAG Life Achievement Award. Nel 2024, all'età di 98 anni, vince il suo primo Daytime Emmy Award come interprete ospite in una serie televisiva. Con una carriera durata oltre sette decenni, Dick Van Dyke è considerato una delle grandi icone dello spettacolo americano, celebre per la sua versatilità come attore, ballerino, cantante e comico e per il suo contributo duraturo alla televisione, al cinema e al teatro.
