Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
Seita en Setsuko zijn broer en zus tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Japan. Nadat hun vader is gestorven tijdens een overzees gevecht en hun moeder is gedood door een luchtaanval, moeten ze naar andere familieleden toe om gesteund te worden. Als die steun op een gegeven moment ook bij hen weggenomen wordt zijn ze alleen nog afhankelijk van elkaar om te zorgen voor onderdak en eten.
