Catherine Elise Blanchett (geboren 14 mei 1969) is een Australische acteur en producer. Ze wordt beschouwd als een van de beste actrices van haar generatie en staat bekend om haar veelzijdige werk in onafhankelijke films, blockbusters en het podium. Blanchett ontving talloze onderscheidingen, waaronder twee Academy Awards, drie British Academy Film Awards, drie Screen Actors Guild Awards en drie Golden Globe Awards. Na haar afstuderen aan het National Institute of Dramatic Art, begon Blanchett haar acteercarrière op het Australische toneel, met rollen in Electra in 1992 en Hamlet in 1994. Ze kreeg internationale aandacht als Elizabeth I in de dramafilm Elizabeth (1998), voor waarmee ze de Golden Globe en BAFTA Award voor Beste Actrice won, en ontving haar eerste van zeven Academy Award-nominaties. Haar vertolking van Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator (2004) leverde haar de Academy Award voor beste vrouwelijke bijrol op. Ze won later de Academy Award voor Beste Actrice voor het spelen van een neurotische voormalige socialite in Woody Allen's comedy-drama Blue Jasmine (2013). Haar meest winstgevende films zijn onder meer de trilogieën The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003) en The Hobbit (2012-2014), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), Assepoester (2015), Thor: Ragnarok (2017) en Ocean's 8 (2018). Blanchett trad op in meer dan 20 theaterproducties. Van 2008 tot 2013 waren zij en haar man, Andrew Upton, artistiek directeur van de Sydney Theatre Company.
