Das Ritual (1987)
Als erfahrener New Yorker Polizeipsychologe versucht Cal Jamison, seinem Kollegen Tom Lopez therapeutisch zu helfen. Der von den Kollegen geschätzte Polizist ist dem Wahnsinn nahe und leidet unter Panikattacken, nachdem er in East Harlem eine grausam zugerichtete Kinderleiche gefunden hat. Ort und Umstände der blutigen Tat deuten auf einen Ritualmord hin. Lopez, bekennender Katholik, ist davon überzeugt, dass Voodoo-Priester ihr Unwesen treiben und er ihr nächstes Opfer sein wird. Carl ist überzeugter Rationalist und glaubt zunächst nicht an diesen Hokuspokus. Doch schließlich kommt er einer mysteriösen Sekte auf die Spur, die durch rituelle Menschenopfer Macht erlangen will. Als Cal bemerkt, dass er selbst dabei eine Schlüsselrolle spielt, ist es fast zu spät.
