Ramón Gerardo Antonio Estévez (geb. 3. August 1940), besser bekannt unter seinem Künstlernamen Martin Sheen, ist ein Filmschauspieler, der vor allem durch seine Auftritte in den Filmen Badlands (1973) und Apocalypse Now (1979) sowie in der Fernsehserie The West Wing von 1999 bis 2006 bekannt ist. Im Filmbereich wurde er beim Internationalen Filmfestival von San Sebastián für seine Leistung als Kit Carruthers in Badlands als bester Schauspieler ausgezeichnet. Seine Darstellung von Captain Willard in Apocalypse Now wurde für den BAFTA Award for Best Actor nominiert. Sheen hat mit einer Vielzahl von Filmregisseuren zusammengearbeitet, wie Richard Attenborough, Francis Ford Coppola, Terrence Malick, Mike Nichols, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg und Oliver Stone. Seit 1989 ist er ein Star auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame. Im Fernsehen gewann er sowohl einen Golden Globe als auch zwei Screen Actors Guild Awards für die Hauptrolle von Präsident Bartlet in The West Wing und einen Emmy für Gastspiele in der Sitcom Murphy Brown. Geboren und aufgewachsen in den Vereinigten Staaten als Sohn von Einwanderern, einer irischen Mutter der ersten Generation, Mary-Anne Phelan aus Borrisokane in der Grafschaft Tipperary und einem galizischen Vater, Francisco Estévez aus Vigo in Galizien (Spanien), übernahm er den Künstlernamen Martin Sheen, um ihm zu helfen, Schauspielanteile zu gewinnen. Er ist der Vater der Schauspieler Emilio Estevez, Ramón Estevez, Carlos Irwin Estevez (Charlie Sheen) und Renée Estevez. Sein jüngerer Bruder Joe Estevez ist ebenfalls Schauspieler. Obwohl er als Schauspieler bekannt ist, hat er auch einen Film gedreht, Cadence (1990), der neben den Söhnen Charlie und Ramon auftrat. Er hat auch im dokumentarischen Fernsehen gesprochen, produziert und Regie geführt und in den 1980er Jahren zwei Daytime Emmy Awards gewonnen.
