Official Secrets (2019)
2003: Katharine Gun, Übersetzerin beim britischen Nachrichtendienst GCHQ, erhält ein streng geheimes Memo. Darin fordert der US-Geheimdienst NSA die britischen Kollegen auf, einige Mitgliedsstaaten des UN-Sicherheitsrats auszuspionieren. Der perfide Plan: belastendes Material zu sammeln, um eine Zustimmung zur UN-Resolution für den Irakkrieg zu erpressen. Katharine gerät in einen moralischen Zwiespalt, entscheidet sich aber, das Dokument zu leaken. Die brisanten Informationen werden schließlich von Journalist Martin Bright im „Observer“ veröffentlicht – ein Coup! Sofort beginnt bei GCHQ die fieberhafte Jagd nach dem Whistleblower. Als Katharine erlebt, wie ihre Kollegen unter immer größerem Druck verhört werden, gesteht sie. Sie wird verhaftet und angeklagt, gegen den „Official Secrets Act“ verstoßen zu haben. Ihrem kurdischen Ehemann Yasar droht die sofortige Abschiebung. Katharines letzte Hoffnung: Menschenrechtsanwalt Ben Emmerson, mit dessen Hilfe sie ihre Verteidigung vorbereitet.
