John Arthur Lithgow (* 19. Oktober 1945 in Rochester, New York) ist ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler. Er spielte in zahlreichen Filmen wie Footloose (1984 mit Kevin Bacon), Cliffhanger – Nur die Starken überleben (1993 mit Sylvester Stallone) und Die Akte (1993 mit Julia Roberts und Denzel Washington). In Shrek – Der tollkühne Held lieh Lithgow Lord Farquaard seine Stimme. Danach übernahm er Rollen in Nix wie raus aus Orange County, The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, in dem er Blake Edwards darstellte, sowie in Kinsey – Die Wahrheit über Sex. In der Fassung von Don Quichotte aus dem Jahr 2000 gab er die Titelfigur. In der vierten Staffel der Fernsehserie Dexter übernahm Lithgow als „Trinity Killer“ die Rolle eines Serienmörders.
