Die Akte (1993)
Die Jurastudentin Darby Shaw mutmaßt in einer Abhandlung über die Ermordung zweier Richter des Obersten Gerichtshofs und die potentiellen Nutznießer dieser Tat. Ihr Freund und Rechtsprofessor Thomas Callahan übergibt das Dokument einem Bekannten, der für das FBI und die Regierung arbeitet. Darby scheint mit ihren Vermutungen genau ins Schwarze getroffen zu haben – nur knapp entkommt sie einem Mordanschlag, bei dem Thomas ums Leben kommt. Auf der Flucht vor ihren Verfolgern erhält Darby Unterstützung von dem Reporter Gray Grantham, mit dem sie der Verschwörung auf den Grund geht.
