Julia Roberts ist eine US-amerikanische Darstellerin und Produzentin und ist seit dem Liebesfilm Pretty Woman nicht nur eine der höchstbezahlten Schauspielerinnen Hollywoods, sondern auch weltbekannt. Als sie dann 2001 auch noch den Oscar als beste Schauspielerin für ihre Rolle in Erin Brockovich erhielt, wurde sie endgültig zu einem der hellsten Sterne am Hollywood-Himmel. So großartig Julia Roberts Leben heute erscheinen mag, so hart waren die Anfänge. Die Eltern der Schauspielerin waren sehr arm und so mussten Julia Roberts und ihre zwei Geschwister Eric und Lisa schon in Kinderjahren jobben um Geld dazuzuverdienen. Nach der Highschool hatte das damals noch völlig unbekannte Mädchen dann auch noch mit der Scheidung ihrer Eltern und Misshandlungen durch den Stiefvater zu kämpfen. Besserung winkte erst nach dem Umzug nach New York. Dort jobbte Julia Roberts als Model und Schauspielerin und bekam durch ihren Bruder Eric Ende der 1980er eine Rolle in Blood Red. Danach ging die Erfolgskurve der Schauspielerin rasant nach oben. Julia Roberts spielte 1989 in Magnolien aus Stahl – Die Stärke der Frauen an der Seite von Sally Field und Shirley MacLaine und feierte schon ein Jahr später ihren großen Durchbruch mit Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts spielte seit dem in zahlreichen großen Filmen, wie Notting Hill, Die Braut, die sich nicht traut und Ocean’s Eleven mit. Die Rolle in einem echten Klassiker der Filmgeschichte lehnte sie allerdings ab. 1992, kurz nach ihrem Durchbruch, war Julia Roberts im Gespräch für die Hauptrolle in Basic Instinct, gab den Studiobossen jedoch einen Korb und verhalf so Sharon Stone zu einer ihrer größten Rollen.
