Gillian Leigh Anderson (* 9. August 1968 in Chicago, Illinois, USA) ist eine US-amerikanisch/britische Bühnen-, Film- und Fernsehschauspielerin. Anderson erlangte in den 1990er Jahren große Bekanntheit mit ihrer Darstellung als Special Agent Dana Scully in der „Akte X“-TV-Serie und Kinofilmen und als Bedelia Du Maurier in der TV-Serie „Hannibal“. Sie verkörpert außerdem DSI Stella Gibson die TV-Serie „The Fall – Tod in Belfast“. Nach dem Ende der 9-jährigen Laufzeit der Serie „Akte X“ im Jahr 2002 zog Anderson nach England. Sie spielte in Independent-Kinofilmen und BBC Kostüm-Dramen sowie in der von der Kritik gut aufgenommenen BBC-Adaptionen von „Bleak House“, „Große Erwartungen“, „Das karmesinrote Blütenblatt“, „Any Human Heart – Eines Menschen Herz“ und „Krieg und Frieden“ – vor allem um sich von Hollywood-Type Casting zu distanzieren. Zusammen mit Jeff Rovin ist sie Co-Autorin der drei Earthend-Saga-Bücher. Mit Journalstin Jennifer Nadel verfasste sie das Sachbuch „Wir – Ein Manifest für Frauen, die mehr vom Leben wollen“. Am 3. Juni 2016 wurde offiziell bekannt gegeben, dass Anderson wieder mit Hannibal-Showrunner Bryan Fuller zusammenarbeiten wird, um Media zu spielen, eine der neuen Götter in der kommenden TV-Adaption von „American Gods“, die auf dem Buch mit dem gleichen Namen von Neil Gaiman basiert.
