Cason und sein Freund Charlie Lentz befanden sich in Lentz’ Auto auf einer Waschbärjagd, als der Wagen in der Nähe von Buellton, Kalifornien, von der Straße abkam. Cason war sofort tot, sein Freund erlag seinen Verletzungen zwei Tage später.
