Eddie Murphy avancierte in den 1980er Jahren zu einem Film-Superstar. Bekannt wurde er in der Rolle des lässigen und witzigen Jungen von der Straße, die er in Nur 48 Stunden als Kleinkrimineller an der Seite von Nick Nolte spielte. Der amerikanische Schauspieler und Comedian Eddie Murphy (eigentlich Edward Regan Murphy), wurde am 3. April 1961 in Brooklyn, New York geboren. Seine Karriere startete er bereits mit 16 Jahren als Performer in der legendären amerikanischen Fernsehshow “Saturday Night Life”. Nach seinem ersten Film Nur 48 Stunden gelang ihm der absolute Durchbruch zum Filmstar mit der Cop-Komödie Beverly Hills Cop – Ich lös’ den Fall auf jeden Fall in der Rolle des Axel Foley, für die er auch eine Golden Globe-Nominierung erhielt. Es folgten weitere Film-Hits wie Auf der Suche nach dem goldenen Kind und Beverly Hills Cop II. Eddy Murphys bis dato steil verlaufende Karriere bekam dann einen herben Dämpfer, durch Flops wie Beverly Hills Cop III, Vampire in Brooklyn und sein missglücktes Regie-Debüt Harlem Nights. Einzig Boomerang und die Fortsetzung von Nur 48 Stunden, Und wieder 48 Stunden bewahrten ihn vor der Bedeutungslosigkeit, ehe er mit Der verrückte Professor wieder in die Erfolgsspur zurückfinden konnte. Seitdem zeichnete sich ein deutlicher Trend in seinem Schaffen ab. Mit erfolgreichen Familien-Komödien wie Dr. Dolittle, Familie Klumps und der verrückte Professor oder Shrek – Der tollkühne Held und weniger erfolgreichen Projekten wie Metro – Verhandeln ist reine Nervensache oder Der Guru. Eddie Murphy lebte lange gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Nicole Mitchell und seinen fünf Kindern in New Jersey. Nach der Trennung des Paares im Juli 2005, reichte Nicole Mitchell Murphy am 5. August 2005 nach 12 Jahren Ehe die Scheidung ein. Sie beantragte Unterhalt und ein gemeinschaftliches Sorgerecht für die fünf gemeinsamen Kinder.
