Alan Mowbray MM (18. August 1896 – 25. März 1969) war ein englischer Bühnen- und Filmschauspieler, der in Hollywood Erfolge feierte. Geboren als Alfred Ernest Allen in London, diente er im Ersten Weltkrieg mit Auszeichnung in der britischen Armee und wurde für seine Tapferkeit mit der Military Medal geehrt. Er begann seine Karriere als Bühnenschauspieler und gelangte in die Vereinigten Staaten, wo er in Broadway-Stücken auftrat und mit einer Theatergruppe durchs Land tourte. Unter dem Namen Alan Mowbray gab er 1931 sein Filmdebüt und spielte anschließend in über 140 Filmen, darunter die Rolle des Butlers in der Komödie „Merrily We Live“ und die Titelrolle in der Fernsehserie „The Adventures of Colonel Flack“. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs hatte er einen unvergesslichen Auftritt als Teufel in Hal Roachs Propagandakomödie „The Devil with Hitler“. Er wirkte in rund zwei Dutzend Gastrollen in verschiedenen Fernsehserien mit. Mowbray war Gründungsmitglied der Screen Actors Guild und engagierte sich darüber hinaus in der Royal Geographical Society. Er spielte die Titelrolle in der Fernsehserie „Colonel Humphrey Flack“, die erstmals 1953/54 ausgestrahlt und 1958/59 wiederaufgenommen wurde. In der Fernsehsaison 1954/55 verkörperte Mowbray Mr. Swift, den Schauspiellehrer der Figur Mickey Mulligan, in der kurzlebigen Sitcom „The Mickey Rooney Show: Hey, Mulligan“ von NBC. Mowbray starb 1969 in Hollywood an einem Herzinfarkt und wurde auf dem Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, Kalifornien, beigesetzt.
