Dal lavoro teatrale di Ibsen (sceneggiatura di Arthur Miller). La storia è quella di un medico che scopre la possibilità d'inquinamento nella regione dove si trova la sua città. Ma la scoperta, se diffusa, provocherebbe la crisi di molte attività economiche del luogo. I maggiorenti, capeggiati dallo stesso fratello del dottore, prima tentano di mettere a tacere l'uomo, poi lo fanno allontanare dalla città.
