Silkwood (1983)
Ispirato ad una storia vera. 1974. Le disfunzioni della fabbrica nucleare devono restare segreti. A qualsiasi costo.Karen Silkwood lavora in una fabbrica di materiale atomico. Dopo aver constatato la contaminazione di un collega, viene trasferita ad altro incarico. Karen entra nel sindacato e inizia a denunciare le irregolarità che si verificano nell'azienda. Sul lavoro viene ben presto isolata e, per di più, resta contaminata. Quando sta per rilasciare un'intervista a un giornalista del New York Times, Karen muore in un misterioso incidente. Nichols si rifà a un fatto di cronaca avvenuto nel 1974, per questa denuncia dei rischi legati all'energia atomica e alle speculazioni che ci ruotano attorno. Ma il film si ricorda anzitutto per la prova superlativa di Meryl Streep.
