David Katz è un mago di fama mondiale e viene a Denver con il suo gruppo per esibirsi in un gala di beneficenza per bambini disabili. Ci sono anche Perry e Della poiché tutti e tre sono sostenitori dell'organizzazione benefica. Kate Ford, un'assistente dall'atteggiamento arrogante, dice a David che d'ora in poi farà un'illusione in cui un'assistente viene sollevata in una bara di vetro per poi scomparire quando la bara viene aperta in aria (mentre l'assistente esce prima che la bara venga sollevata) Dopo un'avventura di una notte con David, Kate è incinta e ricatta David con questo. David e sua moglie Judy non possono avere figli, quindi questo rappresenta per loro un doppio colpo. Tuttavia Kate, con il suo atteggiamento, suscita in lei molto odio da parte del resto del gruppo. Al gala, la bara di vetro viene sollevata ma quando si apre il cadavere di Kate cade a terra - strangolato.
