Due agenti di polizia, l'ordinato e metodico Raymond "Ray" Tango e il più disordinato ma non meno micidiale Gabriel "Gabe" Cash, con le loro operazioni mantengono l'ordine a Los Angeles mettendo a segno una lunga serie di colpi ai danni della criminalità organizzata e del traffico di droga. Il potente boss Perret, stanco dei continui affari milionari mandati all'aria dai due agenti (che tra l'altro sono rivali tra loro e non si sopportano) escogita con i suoi alleati Quan e Lopez un diabolico piano per eliminarli entrambi dalla circolazione, dopo averne inoltre infangato il prestigio per evitare di creare due martiri e scongiurare la reazione della polizia.
