Richard Stephen Dreyfuss (nato il 29 ottobre 1947 a New York) è un attore statunitense, attivo nel cinema, in televisione e a teatro dalla fine degli anni Sessanta. Dopo i primi ruoli televisivi, si afferma sul grande schermo grazie a film come American Graffiti (1973) e Lo squalo (1975), diventando uno degli attori più riconoscibili del cinema americano degli anni Settanta. Nel 1977 recita in Incontri ravvicinati del terzo tipo di Steven Spielberg e nello stesso anno interpreta il protagonista di Goodbye Girl, ruolo che gli vale l'Oscar come miglior attore, rendendolo all'epoca il più giovane vincitore della categoria. Successivamente continua a lavorare in produzioni di successo come Stakeout - Indagine ad alto rischio, Always - Per sempre e What About Bob?. Nel 1995 ottiene una seconda candidatura all'Oscar come miglior attore per Mr. Holland's Opus, nel quale interpreta un insegnante di musica che dedica gran parte della propria vita ai suoi studenti. Nel corso della carriera riceve inoltre un Golden Globe e un BAFTA Award, consolidando la sua presenza sia nel cinema drammatico sia nella commedia. Dreyfuss ha lavorato anche intensamente in televisione e a teatro, partecipando a film per la televisione e serie come The Education of Max Bickford e Madoff. Tra le sue interpretazioni cinematografiche più note figurano inoltre The Goodbye Girl, Stand by Me - Ricordo di un'estate, Poseidon Adventure e Silver City. Con una carriera lunga oltre cinquant'anni, Richard Dreyfuss ha attraversato generi e generazioni del cinema americano, distinguendosi soprattutto per la sua capacità di alternare ruoli drammatici, commedie e personaggi intensi.
