Francis Albert "Frank" Sinatra (12 dicembre 1915 – 14 maggio 1998) è stato un cantante e attore americano. Iniziando la sua carriera musicale nell'era swing con Harry James e Tommy Dorsey, Sinatra divenne un artista solista di successo tra i primi e la metà degli anni '40, diventando l'idolo dei "bobby soxers". La sua carriera professionale si era fermata negli anni '50, ma rinacque nel 1954 dopo aver vinto l'Oscar come miglior attore non protagonista (per la sua interpretazione in Da qui all'eternità). Firmò con la Capitol Records e pubblicò diversi album acclamati dalla critica (come In the Wee Small Hours, Songs for Swingin' Lovers, Come Fly with Me, Only the Lonely e Nice 'n' Easy). Sinatra lasciò la Capitol per fondare la propria etichetta discografica, Reprise Records (ottenendo successo con album come Ring-A-Ding-Ding, Sinatra at the Sands e Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim), fece tournée internazionali, fu membro fondatore dei Rat Pack e frequentò celebrità e statisti, tra cui John F. Kennedy. Sinatra compì 50 anni nel 1965, registrò la retrospettiva September of My Years, recitò nello speciale televisivo vincitore di un Emmy Frank Sinatra: A Man and His Music, e ottenne successi con "Strangers in the Night" e "My Way". Con il calo delle vendite della sua musica e dopo aver recitato in diversi film poco apprezzati, Sinatra si ritirò per la prima volta nel 1971.
