Richard Burton CBE (nato Richard Walter Jenkins Jr.; 10 novembre 1925 – 5 agosto 1984) è stato un attore gallese. Noto per la sua voce baritono melodiosa, Burton si affermò come un formidabile attore shakespeariano negli anni '50, e diede una memorabile interpretazione di Amleto nel 1964. Fu definito "il naturale successore di Olivier" dal critico Kenneth Tynan. Bevitore accanito, il presunto fallimento di Burton nel soddisfare tali aspettative deluse alcuni critici e colleghi e contribuì ad aumentare la sua immagine di grande performer che aveva sprecato il suo talento. Tuttavia, è ampiamente considerato uno degli attori più acclamati della sua generazione. Burton fu candidato sette volte all'Oscar, ma non vinse mai un Oscar. Ha ricevuto BAFTA, Golden Globe e Tony Awards come Miglior Attore. A metà degli anni '60, Burton salì tra le principali star del botteghino.
