Jodie Foster, 1962 in Los Angeles geboren, ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin und Regisseurin. Foster ist einer der wenigen Kinderstars, die den Übergang zum ernstzunehmenden Schauspieler gemeistert haben. Neben einigen Familienfilmen ist die junge Jodie Foster vor allem für die oscarnominierte Darstellung einer minderjährigen Prostituierten in Taxi Driver bekannt. Mit der oscarprämierten Hauptrolle in Angeklagt schafft die US-Amerikanerin den Durchbruch als erwachsene Schauspielerin. Weltweit bekannt macht sie 1991 die Rolle der FBI-Agentin Clarice Starling im Horrorklassiker Das Schweigen der Lämmer. Dem Film gelingt das seltene Kunststück in den fünf wichtigsten Kategorien alle Oscars zu gewinnen und Foster wird im Alter von gerade mal 29 Jahren zum zweiten mal mit einem Academy Award ausgezeichnet. Im selben Jahr gibt sie mit Das Wunderkind Tate ihr bemerkenswertes Debüt als Regisseurin. Jodie Foster lässt sich in den nächsten Jahren nicht auf ein festes Rollenbild festlegen und feiert somit große Erfolge in Western (Maverick), Science-Fiction (Contact), Dramen (Nell) und Thrillern (Panic Room).
