Gertrude Astor (geboren als Gertrude Eyster am 9. November 1887 – gestorben am 9. November 1977) war eine US-amerikanische Filmschauspielerin, die ihre Karriere als Posaunistin auf einem Flussdampfer begann. Geboren in Lakewood, Ohio, riss Astor im Alter von 12 Jahren von zu Hause aus und schloss sich einer Frauenband als Posaunistin an, mit der sie durch die USA tourte. In New York verließ sie die Band, um Filmrollen zu ergattern, und arbeitete zunächst als Statistin, bevor ihre Karriere richtig Fahrt aufnahm. Astor war eine äußerst produktive Darstellerin und wirkte zwischen 1915 und 1962 in über 250 Filmen mit. Ihr erster bekannter Auftritt war 1915 in einem Biograph-Kurzfilm. Anschließend wurde sie von Universal unter Vertrag genommen. Als große, schlanke und schöne Frau überragte Astor oft die männlichen Hauptdarsteller ihrer Zeit; daher wurde sie häufig in komischen Rollen als Aristokratin, Goldgräberin oder beste Freundin der Heldin besetzt. Ihre bekanntesten Stummfilmauftritte waren die des Bühnenstars in „Stage Struck“ (1925) an der Seite von Gloria Swanson, die der Femme fatale, die Harry Langdon in „The Strong Man“ (1926) gestohlenes Geld unterjubelt, und die der schlagfertigen Reisebegleiterin von Laura LaPlante in „The Cat and the Canary“ (1927). Astor arbeitete produktiv in den Hal-Roach-Studios mit Stars wie Laurel und Hardy, der „Our Gang“ und insbesondere Charley Chase. Auch in der Kurzfilmabteilung von Columbia Pictures war sie sehr beschäftigt. In den 1940er-, 1950er- und 1960er-Jahren spielte sie weiterhin kleinere Rollen in Spielfilmen. Sie hatte einen kurzen Auftritt als erstes Mordopfer in dem Sherlock-Holmes-Abenteuer „The Scarlet Claw“ und war 1956 in „In 80 Tagen um die Welt“ als Statistin zu sehen. Ihr letzter Filmauftritt war in John Fords „Der Mann, der Liberty Valance erschoss“. In ihren späteren Jahren war Astor ein gern gesehener Gast bei mehreren Treffen der Sons of the Desert und wurde Ehrenmitglied des Way Out West-Zeltes. Sie starb in Woodland Hills, Kalifornien, an einem Schlaganfall. Sie ist in der Abbey of Psalms auf dem Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, Kalifornien, beigesetzt.
