Der Schauspielstar Morgan Freeman ist heutzutage aus der Filmlandschaft Hollywoods nicht mehr wegzudenken. Umso schwerer vorstellbar, dass dem Darsteller erst mit über 50 Jahren sein internationaler Durchbruch gelang. Vom blinden Klavierstimmer im Film Unleashed – Entfesselt, über den Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten in Deep Impact, bis hin zu Gott persönlich in Bruce Allmächtig war Morgan Freeman schon in einer Vielzahl unterschiedlichster Rollen zu sehen. Bis der Schauspieler jedoch zu einem festen Bestandteil Hollywoods wurde und aus einem breiten Rollenangebot wählen konnte, musste er zunächst einige magere Jahre hinter sich bringen, in denen er neben einigen Auftritten in Filmen vor allem durch die Arbeit auf der Bühne seinen Lebensunterhalt bestritt. Sein Durchbruch gelang Morgan Freeman mit der Rolle des Chauffeurs einer exzentrischen Reichen Witwe im Film Miss Daisy und ihr Chauffeur, die er zuvor bereits im gleichnamigen Theaterstück gespielt hatte und für die er sowohl mit Film- als auch Bühnenpreisen belohnt wurde. Trotz seiner großen schauspielerischen Erfolge, für die Morgan Freeman unter anderem mit dem Oscar für Million Dollar Baby augezeichnet wurde, will der Hollywoodstar noch höher hinaus. Im Space Ship Two von Virgin Galactic will Morgan Freeman an einem Flug in All teilnehmen.
